Reduce noise and vibration with 3M™ adhesive tapes!
Today, I invite you to read the following post on applications, 3M™ single-sided tapes and double-sided adhesive tapes for trains, which answers some queries we have received from clients in the industry and which I hope you will find useful.
In our previous post, we talked about adhesive solutions that allow us to manufacture lighter and more efficient trains and buses, in order to adapt to market trends.
Along the same lines, today we would like to tell you about another challenge encountered by manufacturers of this type of vehicle: building quieter and more comfortable train carriages inside, which contribute to improving the passenger experience; so, if you are wondering how we can reduce noise and vibrations with 3M adhesive tapes, we will tell you below. we will tell you below.
Due to our experience and constant search for solutions in coordination with 3M™, today we want to talk to you about some products that become permanent or semi-permanent adhesive solutions to noise and vibration problems, which, if used correctly, facilitate sound management in the design and construction inside these vehicles.
To begin with, I would like to show you an image where you can identify the usual routes of propagation of noise and vibrations inside the carriage of a high-speed train, according to recent studies. (Hindawi, Shock and Vibration, Volume 2018, Article ID 5085847)
As you can see, both noise and vibrations arise and spread from different areas inside and outside the train; thus, there are different control methods and specialised products to prevent, dissipate or reduce their transmission.
CONTROL METHODS:
Methods to prevent noise and vibration
They are control methods that are applied at the origin or source of noise and vibration, thus preventing them from reaching the inside of the carriages. We recommend the following 3M™ solutions for this purpose:
- 3M™ single-sided tape 9343
- Foams laminated with 3M™ double-sided tape 9775
- Solutions for sliding surfaces 3M™ 5423 and 3M™ 5425 UHMW-PE tapes
Methods to dissipate noise and vibration
Other common ways of controlling noise and vibration is by preventing their propagation, either by absorbing in the former case and/or damping in the latter. In these cases, the 3M™ products we recommend are as follows:
Methods to reduce noise and vibration transmission
These are methods that help reduce noise and vibrations by creating a transmission barrier or dampening vibrations. The products we recommend in these cases are:
All of these are solutions that, as we discussed at the beginning of this post, seek to improve the user experience and comfort, thanks to noise reduction inside the carriages, as well as reducing the direct impact of vibration on passengers.
Finally, we would like to give you the following table with a summary of the different problems, control methods and solutions that we at Fustier have used with our clients, obtaining excellent results, and which can help you in the proper acoustic management of noises, squeaks, rattles and vibrations in your designs and manufacturing.
Remember that our aim is to help you make trains quieter and more comfortable for users.
